Wisconsin Department of Children and Families

Facilities Design Intern

January - August 2022 • Madison, WI

What I liked

At this internship, I was able to get a good sense of how to collaborate, professionally communicate, and work with industry professionals. I liked that I was welcomed in and treated as an equal rather than being looked down on as an intern. They provided me with all the equipment I needed to complete my job remotely as well as having options to go in person and work more hands on. The option of remote was very flexible and allowed me to meet my needs as a student at the same time.

What I wish was different

I do wish I was able to take on more of a leadership with more design projects. We did a good amount of design research, however, at my time there I was not able to do as much creative problem solving as I would have liked.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is to learn from every experience, no matter how big or small. As well, network and make as many strong connections as possible because those are incredibly important.
